I Just Had A "Mommy Moment"

Today started off as just one of those days. I knew it was going to be an uphill battle as the first 5 minutes proved. So I bowed down in prayer saying somethk mg along the lines of, "Lord, convict me of any hypocrisy so that what I say I believe aligns with what I do please also help me walk by the spirit so I don't give in to my flesh." So what did God do with this, something that took me completely off guard.
I took Isaiah to a new doctor. He had been there before but this is his first time seeing her. Before soon I noticed he was calming up, not talk I ng and getting shy. Eventually she needed him to get undressed so we could look at his body more closely. What began as an "I don't want to," turned into an uncontrollable no. His reaction doesn't matter, bottom line, he didn't want to obey. Immediately my mommy skills were on display as the doctor watched me try to get my child to undress. He wasn't going to obey. I started off gentle but he still was resisting. I asked for some privacy to discipline but it didn't matter, he had it set in his mind, he didn't want to do it. I was losing it. He was set he wasn't doing it and I was set he was but there was no obedience. At that point I had lost control of his heart and only wanted the end rwsult, obedience. This wasn't right. He ended up doing it in n the long run but it didn't hit me what God was doing until we were back in the car. I thought it was a temptation to be quick to anger and to choose the Spirit, but it was way more than that!
In the car I asked, "Why didn't you want to take off your pants?" A very legitimate question that I was hoping to get to what he was feeling. Once we identified it I began to hear myself saying, "no matter what you felt, even if you were right, doesn't justify that you were disobedient OR didn't trust your mom that you were safe." I stopped halfway, realizing this was a lesson for me! How ridiculous! Of course my son didn't have to take his pants off if he was uncomfortable but his disobedience and lack of trust in his mommy who loves him was not okay. That's me! In my own sin, I always try and justify myself with good reasoning, but it's disobedience. In the end it's disobedience. Period. How loving of my Father to teach me this through my own child. Lord, help me not to forget this and to take it to heart. Amen!

Abundant Blessings from a Faithful God

I'm so full of joy! I am so blessed!  Im so full of thankfulness for a God who hears our prayers. For weeks i had friend prayi g for a successful VBAC but just a beautiful experience and dis God deliver! But also im so grateful that as i oray to be spirit filled, with abundant joy, he shows up and fills me with fruit that only comes from the spirit. Thank you God for giving me a heart to pray for my nurse who wasn't welcoming to my doula and eventually she lightened up. Thank you for letting Elaine walk through this journey with us and for her unashamed prayers over us as we labored with Audrey. Thank you that you have me joy and gratefulness for our hospital staff as they loved me to health with their gifts. Thanks for pairing us uo with Joanne and Amy who were both great matches to what I needed, factual people. Thank you that Paul and I got to see the miracle of birth. Thank you for epidural which helped my body relax and rest for pushing my baby into the world. Thank you that I got to be the first to hold my baby girl, to look into her eyes and say "Mommy loves you." Thank you that she was amazingly healthu despite diabetes and she scored a 9 and 9 on the Apgar scale. Thank you that Paul and I got to labor together and that he was a rock star holding my hand and encouraging me along the way. Thank you that he encouraged me to labor 20 minutes longer without narcotics as I waited for an epidural at an 8!! Thank you that the anesthesiologist did an amazing job giving me the perfect dose and placement so I could still feel all my contractions! Thank you that my body kept going, beautifully working with Audrey to be born. And what perfect timing! Paul was able to get back safely from his golf tournament in Bremerton in enough time to eat, shower and nap! My mom would arrive in time to visit us at the hospital. Isaiah would still be able to go to his first soccer practice with mama and papa. It was a weekend, so Paul didn't have to miss work. Elaine made it to the hospital in time and predicted a birth between 2 and 3 am.
And my recovery...
Still hurts to have hemorrhoids, have a 2nd degree tare and deal with bleeding nipples as we work with being lip and tongue tie. But don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade it for how everything went! I'm in good hands as I recover and even just 6 days later I'm feeling g very hopeful that I will be "good" within a two week period! Oh, and Dr. Kass was amazing at analyzing, explaining and carrying out thr tongue tie procedure. So grateful for his service and how we can now nurse (no pumping, no shields, no syringes, no tubbing) just how God designed us to. And friends and family, they have come alongside us and celebrated with us!!

I. Am. So. Grateful.

Thank you Lord.

You hear our prayers.

You are good.

You fill me with a spirit that is powerful and bears fruit I could never bear.

Thank you!

A few things about Audrey...
She is quiet.
Much more laid back than Isaiah.
Likes music!
Easy going and sweet.
Lovely in every way! :)

Wrapping up a season of...

I can't believe it's our last night. After a pipe breaking we left our condo and home for 6 years to move in with Marge and cliff foe what we thought would be 3-4 months. We never expected that we would be coordinating a remodel, getting pregnant, celebrating all three of our birthdays, getting to go on date nights every Friday, building a stronger relationship with Marge, Cliff and even Sammy, the list goes on...it's been a whirlwind of 8 solid months! Who would have known we would have ended up listing our place and moving into our first home. Today we gor the keys! Tomorrow we start moving and 8 months pregnant I'm hoping the organizer in me won't be dying to move too fast. Thank you Lord for your many answered prayers and for providing for us each step of the way!

Reflecting on Isaiah's Labor and Birth

It was July 4th. We started the day off with the city's best, a parade in downtown Kirkland. Strutting around in much too short blue jean shorts to beat the heat, we find ourselves people watching. As people start to disperse, we are unsure what to do with ourselves since baby Isaiah has decided to stay tight in my belly. Unsure what to do, we head out for a beautiful walk to enjoy the sunshine and the hustle and bustle of people all around. During this walk I annoyingly have to keep stopping and starting despite Paul jokingly says "keep up." I soon realize that these contractions really aren't subsiding. So we head home for a nice afternoon nap to get some rest before Paul's parents come over for some more festivities. Despite the surges I can rest and have no problem ignoring them for the rest of the afternoon.
Soon Marge and Cliff arrive with Kentucky Fried Chicken in hand.  Luckily it smells good because it will be my last meal for a while. As we wrap up dinner, about 7:30pm, I show off baby Isaiah's new room to Marge. As I'm talking I feel a gushing flowing down my leg and rush to the bathroom. Most definitely my water has just broke. This is both exciting and a bit confusing as we didn't know it meant Isaiah would have a 24 hour time limit to enter this world.
Anyways, it's about time for fireworks so we hustle to the roof top of our Waterview Condo to snuggle up and watch the fireworks from all over Seattle, a truly breathtaking site. Quite distracted, I didn't realize how the surges were progressing. We get back to our place and call the hospital. They suggest timing the surges and calling back. The timings were confusing and not your typical textbook timing. So we call back. They say get some rest and then come in if...so I try to sleep but roll over around 11:30 to Paul and say I think it's time.
So we pack our bags, so excited and neive to the events to come and how significantly our lives will change, for the better.
Arriving at the hospital they check us in immediately since my membranes had already released and they begin to track my baby's heart rate. Although I feel like everyone should be moving fast, as this is a big deal, they progress calmly and slowly. Paul's parents soon arrive in anticipation but I've already progressed to active labor and ask for some distance so I can focus on relaxing through the surges. I find myself really needing to close my eyes and retreat to cope. After trying walking around and sitting on the birthing ball, they offer to draw a bath. I jump on the offer right away since I'm progressing and the coping is becoming harder.
I remember being in that tub forever on hands and knees. Paul rubbing my back and the sweet, young black-haired nurse reminding me not to push. At one loint she looks at Paul and I and says with convictuon, "this. Is. Beautiful." I think she was reflecting on how aweskme Paul was, willing to love and support me dueing this. Ironically, Paul, bless his heart, realizes that this is where birth is disgusting. (This is one of the negatives I think he experienced that I'm hoping changes in our next experience.) From this point forward things are a big blur.
I know I get no rest from the surges. They always seem o be coming and never stopping. (What I later find out to be called "coupling" and most likely working really hard to move my baby from Sunnyside up.) I'm exhausted from no food or drink, this "coupling" and from unfortunately what is known as back labor. (I later find out this means Isaiah is Sunnyside up and pressing on my back. Something that could have been avoided by doing some exercises to rotate him early on.) Eventually I have to quite the tub as my legs are exhausted! Time at this point doesn't exist. I do wonder where the midwives is because I haven't seen her once since I checked in.
But time passes; somehow. Eventually I am asked to "push". (Looking back I'm not sure if I felt the urge to "push." I can't remember.) But I try anyways. On the third try I was told, "on your next try I'm going to lift your cervix up and over the babies head." So we give that a try. Immediately I hear thrm say we need to go. By that they mean surgery. The baby's heart rate has dropped. The hand scrubs to Paul, tell him to scrub and tell them they'll be back for him. They never do. I'm wheeled away on a cold, bare, steel table butt naked and terribly in pain at this point. For a girl who usually doesn't undress in front of people, this is an out of body experience. I'm wheeled down the hall naked, exposed and terribly exhausted, still having serious contractions. If I've ever felt so primitive it was now. We enter the room. Doctors are all around scrubbing up. A sweet, petite blonde comes to my side and introduces herself as Jennifer. She says she'll be doing my surgery and that they will need to give me anesthesia. As the mask goes on she asks me to tell her about something specific, I can't remember, but as I'm talking I drift asleep. I will later find out that from announcing surgery to Isaiah being born was 2 minutes flat. After all those hours of hard work, I would not see my baby born nor hear his first cry. In fact I wake up 45 minutes later to meet him for the first time jn a postpartum room. I will not remember this moment nor will I ever remember "meeting him for the first time. " I was still hugely affected by all the drugs they pumped in me at the last minute. For this I'm both grateful and saddened. Grateful I didn't have to feel the scalpel cut me open. Grateful I didn't have to endure them opening me up, moving my insides and taking my baby from me fully feeling the pain. But I'm saddened because it left me drowsy and incoherent for a good day. It left me weighing more when I left the hospital than when I checked in. Did it effect my baby? I will never know the difference. I would soon find that nursing would be a very difficult experience for the two of us.
I'm so grateful for the advice of a friend who mentioned if the hospital had a nursery send the baby there for the night. Don't feel guilty. You thr rest to heal. You will have plenty of time to take care of baby at hime. Plenty!" To this day I'm so grateful I followed their advice. I was able to get rest and bless the nurses hwarts, they would bring my baby to me each time he needed me and they would help me attempt to nurse. We did good for the most part but he wasn't latching nor was I able to get my milk flowing. (This would pose a problem the first weeks at home.)
They let me stay at the hospital for two days getting some rest, following my pain levels from surgery, helping me pee for tjr first time and allowing visitors. Paul, absolutely exhausted was able to get out for a bit to find some refreshment jn the real world. Many friends and family came to meet baby boy although I still wasn't alert and definitely felt like a blown up hippo. But it was exciting to show off our new addition. He was a lot of work and we were so happy to have him with us. So grateful we both stayed safe.
The days at home were hard, to say the least. My incision was causing a lot of pain. Nursing was difficult. We tried a syringe, tubing, a false nipple, pumping...pretty much everything under the sun. The pediatrician was concerned because he was slightly jaundiced. So on day 1 we headed to the doctor for a blood pick and some testing. Without my consent, the pediatrician stuck a bottle in his mouth with formula. I was devastated but only for a moment. The boy sucked that milk down faster than I could count to one. It was obvious he had been starving. So it began, we added supplementing with formula to our routine but I was determined to continue nursing as so many mommies had expressed it to be so wonderful, a timr of bonding you'll never forget.
The days all blurred together from lack or sleep and my routine of nursing, pumping, bottle feeding, taking meds, then repeat. Sleep was in there somewhere. The pain meds helped tremendously but then began to cause severe digestion problems. I called nurses asking and pleading with them what to do. None would give me any answers that offered relief. (I later realized that I need to help myself and listen to what my body needs not listen to stupid nurses who have no idea the pain I'm in.) I won't go into details, I'll leave it at that, but my recovery was horrid and painful.
I never planned for a ceasaren. I heard having a changing table was not necessary because you can use the floor. I never thought I wouldn't be able to sit on the floor. I never thought I wouldn't be able to carry my own baby's car seat, that I wouldn't be able to drive to our appointments together. We live in a day where you are encouraged to wear your baby, to hold them close. How how I wanted to do that. Never did I think that I wouldn't be physically able to sling him across my chest nor let him rest on my belly while nursing. The recovery made me start to hate how everything ended with a ceasaren for it was robbing me of the joyful life I always imagined with a newborn. Most mom's love their snuggly newborns. I, however, loved him but was saddened by the pain of taking care of him, that I couldn't do it.
Birthing was painful. It was long. It was scary being taken from Paul, knocked out and cut open. I'm saddened that I didn't get to see Isaiah born nor remember meeting him for the first time. I'm saddened that my first days, weeks, months and even years with him were debilitating. And although it wasn't his fault, he was healthy right, was I holding on to bitterness against him for "wrecking" my body? All I know is what happened hapoened. There is nothing I can do to change it. I would say it was a negative experience. And having my beloved father die 7 months postpartum and dealing with seeing him as I mich as I could didn't help the situation. All in all it was a very difficult few years. Emotionally and physically I was hurting. It would spurn me in a spiritual qwest that would change my life. Now with the approaching birth of baby Audrey, I'm having to face these fears because yes things might go south again but this time I want to do all that I can. I don't want to be dependent. I want a positive experience. I don't want to just get through it. I want to experience it fully and leave with a positive experience.
Instead of uniformed and unknowing I want to be knowledgeable. Instead of submissive I want to be powerful. Instead of being a passive onlooker I want to be involved. Instead of conforming, ford thinking. Instead of recnciled, easily led and vulnerable I want to be fullfilled, directing, and trusting. Instead of helpless, vacillating, threatened, embarrassed and resigned I want to be self-sufficient, decisive, confident, assertive, and satisfied. I'm confident Audrey will arrive safely. I need to grow in confidence that I can arrive safely through this process, healed and empowered.

Dear Audrey

Dear Audrey,
It has been a wonderful, joyful experience providing a home for you these past months. Now that you are 32 weeks in my belly, I feel like I'm meeting you for the first time as I notice you moving and grooving and reacting to different things we say, sing or do. You love to stretch ou in my belly and when we read stories at night. Isaiah likes to give you zeberts and high fives along with "all of his kisses." You are a very loved and precious girl to us already.
Next weekend we will be moving into a new home, the first one you will be brought home to. It's also the first house our family will have lived in. Isaiah is looking forward to sharing a room with you and teaching you all the "big boy" things he know.
Each day I wonder what color hair and eyes you will have as I feel you tumble in my belly. What will your personality be? Will you be mellow or boisterous? Will you sleep well or lightly? Will you have a gentle spirit or have one of veracity? I don't know, only the one who has created you knows and I'm excited to learn more about you when I get to hold you for the first time on your birth-day.
You are very precious to me!
Love you fever and always,
Your Mommy

Asking the Spirit for Joy

Life never seems to be "normal" anymore. First it's adjusting to being a mommy, then recovering for 2 years from a surgery, then dealing with my father's passing, then having our home flood and living with in-laws, then managing a remodel, then realizing now is the time to sell our place and move on, then looking for a new home, and it just keeps going...It's called: LIFE.

Life was never was normal. I think I just always hoped it would be and I didn't take credit for those times it  was "easy breezy." However, now I'm at an age that I have realized I don't want life to just happen to me anymore. In the midst of every day life I want to have joy. I don't want it to be something that I have to create, just something that I can bask in in the midst of everyday life. Because let's face it, everyone says "kids grow up fast." For some reason, seeing Isaiah turn 3 and expecting Baby Audrey to arrive soon is making that a reality I no longer want to just good my head at and agree but really embrace.

So as I press into the Lord, a very common bible passage comes to mind:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" Galatians 5:22.

I'm learning that joy truly is a gift of the spirit as the bible says. Just like my salvation is nothing I can do myself, the fruit is nothing I can do either. Like salvation, which is a gift, so is the fruit, a gift!

As God has taught me I can't earn my salvation and as I wrestle with this idea, he is revealing a whole new side of himself: The Holy Spirit. As I press in the God's truth I found myself reading some sermon notes from John Piper's sermon series on the Holy Spirit and realized that the Holy Spirit is much more powerful than I ever gave credit for because it was the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus's dead body to new life (1 Peter 3:18)! The same powerful Holy Spirit that gave the God son new life, is the one who gives me new life! It's not my own doing but the Holy Spirit's own doing. So what does that look like? Well according the Galatians 5:22 joy is a fruit of the Spirit. So why not ask the Spirit to dwell in me (which is already promise to all believers) and ask the spirit to grant joy to me?

As a busy mommy who wants to make as many memories as possible with my son but who still has responsibilities to accomplish each day, I'm torn. Torn because all it takes is a joyful spirit and I can't do that on my own. My natural flesh is a heart of stone that is selfish with my own agenda, quick to anger, etc. But the Lord promises new life and abundant life! Boy do I want that! Because I can either look at finding 5 minutes to go to the park a moment of blessing with this little guy or an annoyance because I need to get the next thing done.

Being a mommy really is humbling. It is bringing me to my knees repenting to Jesus for trying to "do" joy on my own and instead asking his Holy Spirit to bless me with the fruit of joy! Something that I can not do on my own, it is not a natural gift he has given me.

So today, in the midst of our crazy schedule we took a few minutes to do the simple things in life: blow bubbles, watch the recycling truck, play at the playground...a toddler is so precious and I'm grateful this little man made me a mommy and I'm even more grateful that as I asked the Lord to see my son as a blessing and to fill me with joy, he did! Amen to that!

A Happy Birthday Prayer

Lord,
Thank you for my son Isaiah, a true gift and delight of my heart. I woke up this morning and looked at him in the eyes, and was just filled with joy from this blessing you have given me. I can't believe he is 3 years old! Thank you for the adventure we have had so far. Although it's been hard, I'm so grateful for every moment. And Lord, I pray we have many more years together to make memories. Help me to guide him to you because you have designed for us abundant joy and there is nothing better.
Thank you for his good health Lord, his funny sense of wit, his strength in body and mind, his eagerness to explore your created world, his endless energy and tender heart. This year will bring so many new adventures as he goes to preschool and becomes a big brother. May you bless him with the prayer of Paul which comes from Ephesians 3:14-21:
"...I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,  the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.  I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen."
Amen!
Side note: Every year 4th of July fireworks are so special as I remember the beginning of labor in preparation for welcoming this little boy. As we sat and watched fireworks this year he asked,"do i get fireworks every year on my birthday?" Luckily I got to smile at him and say "yes, as long as you are in the United States."
Morning breakfast: special order of chocolate chip pancakes and hot chocolate
Daddy, do it again!

A Prayer for Life

Lord,
I want freedom and I want life. I see it in some of my dear friends who have found rest in you. Thank you that they are an encouragement to me, they reveal who you truly are and bring you the ultimate glory. I want this life. I want to live abundantly, with joy each day that you have blessed me with. It is my own stubborness, pride, self reighteousness, and lack of control over my thoughts to name a few that allows me to bask in my sin. I want to stay there because I don't want to rely on anyone (even you) but myself. If I've been doing this my whole life, why give in to you now? Well, last night I was downward spiraling into sinful thoughts of anger and bitterness. And I was drawn to your word.
I want to say thank you that you changed my heart in the midst of my sin. Thank you that your mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:23) Thank you that you came to give me life abundantly. (John 10:10) Thank you that you desire me to live as a free man and to only be a servant of God, not my sin. (1 Peter 2:16) Thank you that Christ has set me free, for freedom! (Galatians 5:1) Help me Lord to stand firm, to rest in your mercies for me, to rest in that you died not only to forgive me but to give me new life. Help me not to burden my self again with the yoke of slavery to my daily sin. Help me to choose you, to choose life each moment of my day today. Help me to know how fleeting my life is (psalm 39:4) and that I need to choose bow, today, in this moment to o ey you, repent and serve you joyfully.
May this be a testimony of your goodness and  ring your glory to many who are blind or are just weak. I pray specifically your work will encourage Isaiah and Paul, those who I love most deeply.
Amen!

My First Letter to My Daughter

Dear Sweet One,

Today was a very blessed day, we found out that you are officially a girl! I am overwhelmed with excitement as me and your dad were hoping a praying for a little girl. God is good! He knows the desires of our hearts and answers our prayers! (I also think that Great Grandma Koutsouros or "Yia Yia" had a little influence being face to face with the Lord. About the same time we found out we were pregnant with you, Yia Yia went to be with the Lord. She always said she would pray for a little girl for us.)

As I took some time this afternoon to run errands, the news of you really sank in. The reality that God was giving us you, brought me to tears. Ironically, at the same time the flood gates opened allowing fear to already take root in my heart.  I'm fearful of all the challenges that you will have to face as a women in this world of ours. More so, I'm fearful of how it will hold me accountable needing to be a model for you, finding my identity in the eyes of God and not in those of others or the world. It will be clear I won't be able to be a perfect example for you but by His grace he will reveal this to both of us over time and I pray his mercy will be apparent through my life. I'm already praying against those fears.

My dear daughter, you are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. To me you are already so beautiful. You are so blessed and loved. God has great plans for you my loved one! You are a true gift, a true blessing.

I can't wait to meet you!

Love dearly,
Your mother

My Agenda & My Authority Disproved

Lord, in parenting I have made discipline about my authority and my agenda. I believed it was about me and lost sight of you. Help me to reflect YOUR authority as the moon reflects the sun (son). Isaiah will become an jmitator of me, but by me being an k mitator of the Holy One, may he unconciously be an imitator of you. Remind me to glorify you jn all I do. That's what God has designed me and my children to do.
Thank you Lord. May you work be done in my heart. By your sons death, this is possible because I am forgiven and it is finished. Thank you. May your mercy abound. Amen!

Lessons from the Life of Moses

Moses was a godly man, no other like him that saw God face to face. He was a man of faith, courage, obedience and intercession.
What did I learn this year in BSF?
1. God really does love his people, including me. God chose the Israelite to be his people and that he would bless them. End of promise. It is nothing they did, just his promise. God also desires for his people to be a holy people that worships and glorifies the one true God. We are to bring him glory in all that we do and each moment that he has given us on his earth. Lord, help me to bring you glory today. I have tried on my own and i just can't do it. Ive been living a life lacking fullness in your joy and glory. I have cut you short for the amazing and perfect God that you are. Jesus, will you put in my heart a desire to see you in every breath of life that I have been given. Help me to believe that you are worthy of glory each step of my way.
2. God, you cover me in royal robes as your atonement cover was designed to cover the 10 commandments, which could not be kept, in the ark. When you look down on me, you don't see the broken commandments, you see a child dressed and covered in royalty by the grace of Jesus Christ. Thank you! May I live humbled by your mercy and grace.
""LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered--how fleeting my life is." Psalm 39:4
3. Moses lived and DIED well. I fear dying Lord because I fear mostly not living well. Help me to die each day to you so that jn the end I will live with you! Reveal to me what that looks like each day. I'm scared I will.miss you in the meticulous Ness of my day but Jesus, align my heart with the yours each day so you may get the glory today and in my last days.
Most of all, Lord, thank you for bringing me to BSF were you truth is taught. At the beginning of this year I struggled with Paul's declaration, "I'm not ashamed of the gospel because it is God's power for the salvation of all" Romans 1:8&9. I was ashamed of your gospel, jn teaching at a Christian school, amongst family and friends, among my father's death bed, and now as a parent trying to raise the next generation in the truth. What was I ashamed of? I was suppressing the truth in my own evil way. I also did not know the truth. I broke the first commandment by making for myself an idol of the God I thought you were. Now I seek to know the one true God, and in that truth I desire to find freedom as you promise. God, you promise if I seek you, you will be found. And this year has proven that your promise is true even for me. I'm finding out about the one true God and I'm so grateful you have put people in my life to pray for me during this journey, especially Ms. Liz Butler. May you bless her and Miss Teacher Carol, who have made this journey reality. Continue to reveal your truths as I press jn to them. Continue to put on my heart a desire to know the One True God and his Word.
I'm truly blessed. Thank you Lord! May you get all the honor and glory. Amen!

Narration in the Bathroom

Just had the most embarrassing experience in a public restroom as isaiah decided to narrate me going potty. "Mommy you don't have to push hard. Just wait. It should come out." My exact words at the perfect timing. Ugh Too bad he was so adorable saying it. Just bad tkming. Luckily the only other person in the bathroom was an older lady. Hopefully she got a kick out of it too.

Knowing God

Lord,
I want to know your truths. You promise that as I knock and seek you, you will answer.
Well today I came across Deuteronomy 29:29 which says, "the secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed [in scripture and in nature] belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law."
All that I have a right to know and all that I need to know is revealed in scripture. So Lord, please guide my studies and teach me your word. May your holy spirit grant me with unbelievable memorization NOT so I may boast in my knowledge to others but solely so I may be humbled,  and know you more.

A Lesson From Sienna

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."
Ephesians 2:8

Faith is a gift.

So why have I been struggling to believe in God? First, I don't want to. I want to know truth, but I'm not ready to believe. Yet today I was reminded that faith is believing in what is unseen. I will not know everything of who God is. Most of him will remain unseen. I will keep knocking, he will answer. He promises. But he also commands me to believe (1 John 3:23). So to believe in what is unseen, how do I do that?

Well I'm reminded of sweet little Sienna who for months wouldn't open the gift I so excitedly purchased to make her "big sister" transition so special. I even picked out the most precious, perfect gift, a ballerina treasure box! She would be ecstatic, in love! Why doesn't she want to open it? As much as I coaxed her, she had no interest and it broke my heart. She just said NO and even sometimes screamed and flailed.

Is this how God feels? He has died for all, including me, and I don't want that gift. "I'm not ready," I think. His heart must be broken too. God, can you help me believe? God, you command me to believe but I just can't. Jesus, can you give me a heart that wants to believe?

So what does Jesus do almost immediately? Gives me a heart to believe. He softens my heart and welcomes me home like the prodigal daughter. "I didn't ask you to do it on your own. You could do nothing to earn my favor, even believe. You just needed my son. Thanks for asking him to do it for you because after all, it IS finished."

Thank you Lord that your mercies are new every morning, great is your faithfulness!

The Need for Obedience

God,
Today I finally understand your heartache over disobedience. Im so sorry for the hearta he ive caused you in saying 'no" repeatedly. At this point I feel I have no authority over my son. He is defiant and doesn't listen to my commands. He either says no, has a nasty heart or attitude or flat out runs in the opposite direction laughing. I can't take it anymore, my no means nothing and it's a battle every 3 minutes of the day. So I officially lost it, I broke down in tears because I can't do it. I can't.  I can't raise this child up in your instruction to be obedient right away, all the way with a happy heart because I can't even do it. I'm being so hypocritical. By your grace, Im reminded that it's the law that breaks us and helps us realize our need for a Savior. So Lord, I am broken by this inability to discipline my own child i love so well. I ask you show up this morning and give me the strength to have a happy and calm heart as I follow through in my obedience in discipling my child. May you have victory over our sin today and get the glory today. Amen!

3:30PM UPDATE
God is good! He answers prayers! He has given us both a desire to obey today; right away, all the way and with a happy heart. Praise Jesus!

"Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning." Lamentations 3:23
